She is Board Certified with the American Board of Ophthalmology and has memberships with the American Society of Retinal Specialists,  the British and Eire Vitreoretinal Society, the European Retina Society (EURETINA), the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Burnier International Ocular Pathology Society (BIOPSY) and is an Associate Fellow of the American College Surgeons.

Dr. Russell-Hermanns also works as a full time Consultant at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH), which is the public tertiary hospital in The Bahamas.

She is an Associate Lecturer with the University of the West Indies and is solely responsible for organization of the medical student rotation in the Department of Ophthalmology at PMH. She lectures, mentors and prepares the end of clerkship examinations for the students rotating in Ophthalmology.

Her most recent academic appointment is also now as the Co-Director of the Yale-Bahamas Program. She is responsible for supervising and overseeing the Yale University/Yale Eye Center Ophthalmology residents during their month long rotations in the Bahamas at PMH.

Ophthalmology

After rotating through the various medical specialties during internship, she found Ophthalmology to be one of the few specialties in medicine where patients could obtain almost instant gratification and appreciation for what is done.

Dr. Russell-Hermanns did her Ophthalmology residency at Yale University/Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut, USA.

She then went on to do a Clinical Research Fellowship in Ocular Oncology, Pathology and Uveitis at the Henry C. Witelson Laboratory and the Royal Victoria Hospital, McGill University, Montreal Quebec, Canada.

Dr. Russell-Hermanns was born and grew up in Nassau (New Providence), The Bahamas.

She obtained her medical degree from the University of the West Indies at the Trinidad and Tobago campus.

It was during her internship at the Princess Margaret Hospital Nassau, The Bahamas when Dr. Russell-Hermanns discovered her love for Ophthalmology.
