  • Diabetic Retinopathy

    We are currently fighting a huge Diabetic problem in the Bahamas. Diabetes affects multiple organ systems including your eyes. Diabetes can cause cataracts and Diabetic retinopathy which can both lead to significant impairment of vision.

  • Cataracts

    A cataract is formed as a result of the clouding of your natural crystalline lens. This commonly occurs in older age as an age-related process. Cataracts can also form as a result of trauma, and certain conditions like Diabetes and Ocular inflammation.

  • Glaucoma

    Glaucoma is a the term used for a group of conditions that ultimately result in damage to the optic nerve. One of the main causative factors in the majority of the types of glaucoma is an elevation in the intraocular pressure. This is the pressure inside your eye and normal intraocular pressure ranges from 10 mmHg to 21 mmHg. This can lead to permanent optic nerve damage and irreversible impairment in vision.

  • Ocular Inflammatory Diseases

    Ocular inflammation or uveitis occurs inside your eye. This is inflammation of the middle layer or uveal tissue and can be characterized according to the part of the eye that is affected. It can occur as a result of various systemic diseases, trauma or in a lot of cases can be idiopathic.

  • Retinal Detachment

    It s a disorder of the eye in which the retina separates from the layer underneath. Symptoms include an increase in the number of floaters, flashes of light, and worsening of the outer part of the visual field. This may be described as a curtain over part of the field of vision.

  • Retinopathy of Prematurity

    Retinopathy of prematurity is a condition that can occur in premature babies. This condition is due to failure of normal development of the retina as a result of various risk factors which a premature baby has or is exposed to.
